Technical Data Overview

Emission factors and methodology for Talquin Energy Cooperative.

The Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Developing a greenhouse gas inventory (carbon footprint) involves calculating the volume of various greenhouse gases (GHGs) produced through an activity. These different gases are then converted into a single measurement: the **Metric Ton of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO2e)**.

Talquin Specific Data

This calculator uses emission factors derived specifically from Talquin Electric Cooperative's energy mix. Unlike national averages, these factors account for the specific ratio of natural gas, coal, and renewable resources used to generate the electricity provided to your home or business.

What is a Metric Ton?

A metric ton (tonne) of CO2 equals 2,204 lbs. This is roughly the weight of a Volkswagen Beetle. A tonne of CO2 is produced by burning 114 gallons of gasoline or a round-trip flight from Atlanta to Rome. An average American house produces about 1 tonne of CO2 per month.
