Mark van Soestbergen has been a leader in organizational Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting and carbon mitigation strategy since 1998. He has served as the lead architect for carbon footprints and neutrality strategies for Fortune 500 companies, major municipalities, and higher education institutions across North America and Europe.

Key Technical Milestones

  • GHG Protocol Expert: Deeply experienced in WRI/WBCSD standards for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions analysis.
  • LEED Innovation: Organized the first issuance of Emission Reduction Credits (ERC) to a LEED-certified building.
  • ACUPCC Reviewer: Served as a reviewer for the Implementation Guide defining climate neutrality rules for over 700 institutions.

Leadership & Founding Roles

Mark previously served as the coordinator for the University of Florida Climate Neutrality Working Group. In this role, he was charged with devising a neutrality strategy for a massive entity encompassing 45,000 students, 13,000 staff, 17 million square feet of building space, and a fleet of 4,000 vehicles.

He is also the Co-founder of the Florida Renewable Resource Conservation and Development Council, which focuses on the development of bio-based renewable energy solutions. His work continues to focus on helping global clients leverage sustainability challenges into competitive advantages and increased profitability.
